[Every week, IndieGames.com: The Weblog co-editor-in-chief Tim W. will be summing up some of the top free-to-download and commercial indie games from the last seven days on his sister 'state of indie' weblog.] This week on 'Best Of Indie Games', we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The goodies in this edition include a real-time strategy game with eggs and chickens, a co-operative iOS sequel to Alistair Aitcheson's Greedy Bankers, a pair of picks from the IndieRoyale bundle, plus a platformer about the 'pursuit' of hats. Here's some recent highlights from the site: Game Pick: 'Chickon' (Phil Hassey, freeware) "Chickon is a real time strategy game, where players move their chicken to powerup-filled battles against robot chicken and their robot factories, all the while rescuing rather handsome roosters from captivity." Game Pick: 'Ben There, Dan That! & Time Gentlemen Please!' (Size Five Games, commercial indie) "Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen Please! aren't exactly the prettiest games out there but that's okay. Within the first two minutes of launching Ben There, Dan That! (Time Gentlemen Please! is the sequel), you'll find yourself suppressing unhealthy amount of snickering." Game Pick: 'Fate of the World' (Red Redemption, commercial indie) "As the newly elected GEO president, it is your responsibility to ensure that humanity survives the next century or so. However, instead of pitting you against alien invasions or bio-terrorism, Red Redemption's strategy game will have you taking up arms against things like global warming, energy crises and human foibles." Game Pick: 'Greedy Bankers vs. The World' (Alistair Aitcheson, commercial indie) "Eurogamer Indie Arcade Finalist Greed Bankers vs. The World is the deluxe version of Alistair Aitcheson's iPhone title Greedy Bankers. Here Aitcheson takes multiple stabs at the ongoing real world capital chaos, but not in a way that bogs down the core, gem building and cashing-in gameplay." Game Pick: 'Fail-Deadly' (Josh Sutphin, browser) "Fail-Deadly began in August 2010 during a Ludum Dare 'enemies as weapons' competition and ending up taking first place. The competition's theme is clearly present in Fail-Deadly, where both sides fighting become the players' weapons in ultimately achieving world domination." Game Pick: 'Pursuit of Hat' (Anton Rogov & Alexander Ahura, browser) "At first glance, Pursuit of Hat doesn't look all too different from your average platformer. You're an odd little critter who wants his hat. Acquisition of the hat allows you to move onto the next level. Sounds simple, right?"
