Full Sail University in Florida will be adding a one-year (12 month) master of science degree in game design to its academic program beginning in October. The MSc in game design degree will cover the entire scope of a game development cycle as it relates to the responsibilities of a studio manager. The required core courses will be on asset management, production methodologies, and quality assurance (bug testing), Other focal points of the curriculum will be teaching leadership, team management, game design, and marketing through hands-on exercises. According to official literature, the program will “culminate with students stepping into the role of an external producer in a real world studio scenario. Students will lead a group of artists and programmers as they design and code graphics, gameplay, and audio for a fully playable game.”

“The program integrates individual project work moving into one large guided team project,” said Rob Catto, program director of game design and game development, at the school in a press release. The school, which was previously Full Sail Real World Education, became recognized by the state of Florida as a university in March of this year. Full Sail currently offers 16 academic degrees, which includes associate and bachelor degrees in science, as well as master of science degrees.
