It’s been a couple of weeks since Titanfall 2 launched, but game developers and writers have been constantly talking about how surprisingly strong and artfully designed its single-player campaign is.

That’s notable given that up to this point, there wasn’t much indication that Respawn as a studio was interested in some of the game design challenges that come with a Half Life-styled single player campaign. The first Titanfall was fairly successful, but didn’t give any hints as to what a single-player version of the game would contain.

Today, we’re going to play through Titanfall 2’s strangest, most standout level “Effect and Cause” on Twitch, and talk about how its level geometry, enemy design, and control scheme help make it a level that game designers of all stripes should study. Come play with us at 3PM EST!

Be sure to subscribe to Gamasutra’s Twitch stream for regular developer interviews and gameplay commentary, and catch up on last Friday’s post-VRDC discussion with Ben Vance and Robin Hunicke.
