The prices of all three models of the Xbox 360 have been cut in Europe, pushing the cost of both the Arcade and Premium bundles below that of the Wii.
Following similar price drops in Japan and North America, each primary Xbox 360 bundle will be cut in price by the equivalent of around $54. The Xbox 360 Arcade model, the only one without a hard drive, will drop to €179.99/£129.99 ($257/$233).
The Premium model with a 60GB hard drive will drop to €239.99/£169.99 ($342/$305) and the Elite model with a 120GB hard drive will fall to €299.99/£229.99 ($428/$412). The new prices will come into effect this Friday, September 19th.
These prices compare to £179.99 ($323) for the Wii in the UK and £299.99 ($538) for the new 80GB model of the PlayStation 3. Neither rival console is expected to see an official price cut this year in Europe.
“Xbox 360 has now sold over 20 million consoles worldwide and due to its unprecedented success, we are now able to pass on the rewards of that success to the consumer with a new retail pricing from £129.99”, said Neil Thompson, senior regional director of Microsoft UK in a statement released alongside the announcement.
