Take-Two Interactive and developer Firaxis have announced that the previously announced Wii version of Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution has been put on “indefinite hold” as work is concentrated on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS versions. According to a Take-Two spokesman speaking to consumer website IGN, "Development for the Wii version of Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is currently on hold. We are focusing our attention on creating the best possible Civilization experience for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS platforms." The game is the first title in the long-running strategy series to be created solely for consoles, with no PC version currently planned and an emphasis on shorter games and multiplayer gameplay. No further details were given for why the Wii version has been put on hold, despite development of the Nintendo DS version continuing. When first announced in June of last year, the game was described as “accessible, visually immersive and action-packed”, and promised real-time interaction with leaders and advisors as well as “extensive” multiplayer capabilities and integrated video and voice chat. Firaxis also promises sixteen civilizations to control or compete against, with the goal remaining to conquer the world through a combination of military and cultural dominance.
