Ubisoft Announces Protothea For WiiWare

Publisher Ubisoft has announced its first WiiWare title, Protothea, a 3D remake of the 2005 PC shooter, scheduled for release alongside the download service’s launch in North America next month.
Publisher Ubisoft has announced its plans to remake Protöthea for WiiWare, originally a vertical-scrolling shooter released for PCs in 2005. The title will feature new 3D engine and control setup for Nintendo’s WiiWare download service, and will debut with the service’s North American launch on May 12th. Developed by Argentina-based studios Sabarasa and Digital Builders, Protöthea charges players with destroying an asteroid named “Maqno 01” in an effort to sabotage the plans of a political faction. The top-down 3D shooter’s enemy AI is dynamic and adapts to player actions, promising a different experience with each playthrough. Players control their ship using the Nunchuk and aim their shots with the Wii Remote. Eight different air-to-air weapons are available for the player to use, as well as two air-to-ground bombs and a special power that decelerates time. Said Ubisoft vice president of third-party operations James Regan: "Ubisoft is excited to bring Protöthea exclusively to the platform and we feel it's a must-have WiiWare title. Protöthea really reminds me of some of the best arcade games, with the Wii Remote as an added dimension. It's just a flurry of fast-paced action that anyone can simply pick up and enjoy."
