Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced its Game Yarouze (Let’s Make a Game) 2006 competition, which begins on November 15. This competition, now in its 11th year, asks aspiring game designers to send in their ideas, and for those accepted, Sony will finance the project with the loan of an office and staff, and will pay cost of living and production expenses. Previous successful games created through this process include XI [sai] (AKA Devil Dice) and the Doko Demo Issho series. This year marks the first that applicants will be able to submit ideas for PSP and PS3 titles, and both professional and amateur game designers are encouraged to apply (even existing corporations can apply). Application is to be done through Sony Japan’s dedicated website, which will launch on the November 15. Submissions will be accepted until February 28, 2006, though the contest is only open to Japanese residents. Upon completion of the software, Sony reserves the right to put it on the market, which, for the armchair game designer, is perhaps the greatest prize of all.
