Sony Europe President Chris Deering has announced his retirement from the company, in favor of pursuing other activities in the U.S., where his family lives. Deering's retirement will be effective November 1st, 2005, which will mark the end of his 10-year career at Sony.
Deering was founding President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in 1995, overseeing both the successful launch of the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 in European markets, and was promoted to overall President of Sony Europe in April 2004.
His replacement as President of Sony Europe will be Fujio Nishida, currently the Executive Vice President of Electronics Marketing at the home Sony offices in Tokyo. Prior to that position, Nishida worked in a variety of other Sony offices around the world, such as Canada, Australia, and America.
"I leave Sony in Europe with many great memories and am convinced that Sony's future in Europe is unparalleled," said Deering. "The team is revitalised, the product line-up is now the best it has been in years, and momentum will build with the high definition digital wave under the new Sony management team." Deering will work with Nishida to transfer power in Europe until his resignation, and continue to consult with the company after his retirement.
