Take-Two's publishing label Rockstar Games announced Red Dead Redemption, a sequel to its 2004 Western third-person shooter Red Dead Revolver. Scheduled to ship this fall, Red Dead Redemption will release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will use the company's proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) -- the same engine seen in Grand Theft Auto IV. Rockstar San Diego, the studio behind Red Dead Revolver and more recently Midnight Club: Los Angeles, will again handle development for Redemption. The title will feature an open-world environment, similar to Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series and Bully, except set in the Wild West. Players take on the role of former outlaw John Marston as they explore frontier towns and battle against other gunslingers. "The team at San Diego has massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption," says Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser. "The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be." This is the first new Rockstar Games announcement since Take-Two extended its partnership agreement with key creative team members through 2012.
