PSP Outsells Wii And DS Combined In Japan

The PSP’s resurgent hardware sales continue in Japan, with the console outselling both the Wii and DS -- despite a continued lack of software sales beyond Capcom’s Monster Hunter -- as the PS3 also sees a rise following the release of Sega’s Val
Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week ending April 27th, following details of the software top thirty. For the fifth week in a row, the PSP has remained the best selling console hardware format in Japan, despite continued domination of the software sales chart by the Wii and Nintendo DS. Despite only four titles in the software top fifty, and only Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G selling in any substantial numbers, the PSP saw sales rise by nearly 7,000 units to 92,411. This figure is more than the Wii and Nintendo DS weekly totals combined. The Wii moved up into second place this week, with sales increasing by around 4,500 units to a total of 48,796. This pushed the Nintendo DS into third place, with a drop in sales of over 2,000 units to 44,551. The success of Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles in the software charts saw PlayStation 3 sales rise by over 1,500 units to 9,107. With a number of new releases this week the PlayStation 2 also experienced a sales rise by over 500 units to 7,108. Despite two titles in the software top thirty, the Xbox 360 enjoyed a sales rise of a few hundred units to a weekly total of 1,283 units. Overall in the software top fifty, there were thirty-one Nintendo DS titles, six for the Wii, five for the PlayStation 2, four for the PSP and two each for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
