Los Angeles-based Rubicon Studios has named TV and game industry veteran John Zuur Platten as the new director of digital media, tasked with adapting Rubicon's entertainment properties for social media and casual games and apps, among other tasks.
After working in TV production on series including Matlock, Platten got into game development in the mid-'90s, writing and producing for titles like Sega CD's
Tomcat Alley and PlayStation's
Fear Effect. More recently, he's worked on Ubisoft's
Ghostbusters and
Wheelman reboots, Square Enix's
Gun Loco and Activision's
Apache Air Assault.
“John is a tremendous talent whose experience and expertise will be a valuable addition to our team in Los Angeles as we work to realize the maximum potential of our entertainment properties across all platforms," said studio executive director for North America David Corbett.
Rubicon Studios is a subsidiary of Rubicon Group Holding, a Dubai-based animation production, licensing and location-based entertainment group. The company's works include a new line of "Pink Panther & Pals" cartoons and an upcoming 3D animated movie based on L. Frank Baum's "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus."
“John Platten is a consummate writer and producer whose vast experience in the digital arena – from the industry’s inception to the present day – will serve Rubicon well as we develop our most valuable properties for the transmedia marketplace,” said Holding CEO Randa Ayoubi in a statement.
