San Francisco-based Perpetual Entertainment has announced that its online technology platform has been licensed by the MMO-focused BioWare Austin studio for its new massively multiplayer project.
As part of the agreement, BioWare Austin will leverage Perpetual’s technology for for development and support of its upcoming MMO, the first project for the new studio. Among those working at the studio are lead designer James Ohlen, BioWare's creative director, as well as MMO veterans Richard Vogel and Gordon Walton.
According to Perpetual Entertainment, the company’s online platform includes “a technology backbone of modules,” as well a collection of in-game features and services for player management, billing, customer relationship management, game feature extension, load-balancing, lobby servicing, patching and community management.
"We evaluated numerous technology solutions to serve as the service backbone of our first MMO title and feel Perpetual's online platform is the best fit," said Gordon Walton, Co-Studio Director of BioWare Austin. "The Perpetual team has years of experience building infrastructure and tools for online games and we are thrilled to be working with them."
