Now out of Early Access, Battlegrounds crosses 30M players

Bluehole subsidiary PUBG Corp. has kept true to the company's earlier promise that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds would exit Early Access before the end of 2017.

Bluehole subsidiary PUBG Corp. has kept true to the company's earlier promise that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds would exit Early Access before the end of 2017.

Now nine months out from its first release, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has hit version 1.0 on PC and effectively ended its reign as a massively popular early access title to begin its life as just a regular, massively popular online game.

According to PUBG Corp., the big milestone comes just as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds crosses 30 million players worldwide between both PC and Xbox One versions of the game. It is worth noting however that the number given represents players rather than copies sold as the previous milestones have been.

Even so, 30 million sales wouldn't be unexpected for the record-breaking game since, as of early November, it had already sold over 20 million copies on PC alone.

While out of early access on PC, PUBG only released on Xbox One on December 19 and will remain in Microsoft's early access-like Xbox Game Preview program following today's big PC update. However, its status as a preview title has seemingly not held it back on the platform. Within the first 48 hours of its console launch, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds crossed 1 million players. Following that early success, Microsoft also announced plans to bundle the game with all Xbox One X consoles sold through the end of 2017.
