Three new colors for the Nintendo DSi are to be launched in Japan on March 20th. The colors are Pink, Lime Green and Metallic Blue, with the hardware otherwise identical to the existing models. The new models will be priced at the standard ¥18,900 ($195) and will be sold alongside the standard black and white launch models. Both Nintendo and Sony in the past have successfully used new color versions of portable platforms to boost demand, often succeeding even without associated new software releases. The DSi features two 0.3 megapixel cameras, larger screens and a SD card slot to allow for downloadable content. The system was launched in Japan on November 1, 2008 and is due for release in North America on April 5th at a price of $169.99. The European launch is set for two days earlier at a price equivalent to around $216 in the UK. There is no confirmation so far as to when and if the new Japanese colors will be launched in the West. In North America the launch colors are Blue (not Metallic Blue) and Black. In Europe, the launch colors are White and Black.
