Nintendo of Europe has announced that it will not host a booth at the August 2008 Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, as it has in previous years.
The company stressed in its release (translated by
weblog Nintendo Revolution) that its decision to not attend was not a criticism of the convention, and thanked the organizers of the four-day conference for their cooperation in the past. Instead, Nintendo reasoned that its marketing strategy for the second half of 2008 depended more on presenting its games in smaller local events rather than in massive exhibitions.
Nintendo Germany general manager Dr. Bernd Fakesch made sure to state that this decision does not rule out Nintendo's attendance at GamesCom 2009 in Cologne, Germany, which will replace
the Leipzig Games Convention after this year's event.
Nintendo also announced that following this year's E3 Media & Business Summit, it will begin a nationwide tour to inform the media and retail partners about its forthcoming products.
