Nintendo Discontinuing SSBB's User-Generated Content Uploads

Less than a year and a half after Super Smash Bros. Brawl's release, Nintendo announced it will shut down the Wii fighting game's current online services for uploading user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data.
Nintendo announced through its official Super Smash Bros. Brawl site that it will shut down the fighting game's current online services for uploading user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data as of June 30th, 2009. The announcement comes less than a year and a half since the game launched in the U.S. on March 9th, promising one of the most robust sets of online features for any Wii game, first- or third-party. The fighting game was the fourth top-selling title across all platforms in 2008, according to NPD sales data, and moved over 8.43 million copies worldwide as of March 2009. Though Nintendo's service will no longer accept user-generated content, the company notes that it will continue to distribute any snapshots, stage designs, and replay data that were posted by users prior to June 30th after the upload shutdown date. This change to Super Smash Bros. Brawl's user-generated content sharing features should not affect multiplayer matches played through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
