Nintendo has confirmed a release date of June 8th (June 12th in Europe) for the new Wii MotionPlus accessory, following months of speculation on its delayed release.
The device attaches to the bottom of the Wii remote and allows for far greater accuracy in motion sensing. It will be available as a standalone accessory for $19.99, and will also be bundled with new game
Wii Sports Resort.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata indicated a
July release for the game last week and this has now been confirmed as July 26th (July 24th in Europe).
A number of forthcoming third party titles also use MotionPlus: Electronic Arts’
Grand Slam Tennis is scheduled for release in North America on June 18th, while
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Sega’s
Virtua Tennis 2009 will also use the device.
"Wii MotionPlus represents a new evolution in video game control. The variety of fun games in
Wii Sports Resort show off its incredible precision," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing.
"Developers around the world are busy working on new ways to incorporate Wii MotionPlus controls into inventive experiences for consumers."
