New Touch! Generations Title Tops Japanese Charts

Game software sales have begun to pick up in Japan, with a new DS Training game at number one, followed by Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and the newly restocked Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2, as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 titles continue to
Software sales have begun to pick up again in Japan after a seasonal low over the last few weeks. Overall sales are still below average, but new Nintendo DS Touch! Generations title DS Ganriki Training has made a creditable debut at number one with almost 95,000 unit sales. The game, whose name roughly translates as DS Observation Training, includes a number of observational puzzles, tasking players with activities such as following rapidly moving symbols and helping to improve eye to hand co-ordination. The title is one of three similar releases in the top ten this week, with More Brain Training at number six and More English Training at number nine. The second highest new entry of the week is the Wii version of BioHazard 4 (aka Resident Evil 4) with almost 44,000 unit sales. Combining the superior graphics of the GameCube version with the extra content from the PlayStation 2 release, the performance is not likely to have disappointed Capcom, considering the relatively low cost of development. At number three, import favorite Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 on the Nintendo DS has sprung back into the top ten, after low stock in its second week of release made it all but impossible to acquire in Japan, with third week sales of nearly 34,000 units. The final new entry of the week, at number four, is Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear XX ^ Core for the PlayStation 2, with nearly 32,000 units sold – again proving that 2D beat ‘em-ups can still find a significant audience in Japan. There are no PlayStation 3 titles or Xbox 360 titles in the top thirty, with three PlayStation 2 titles in total, two for the PSP, five for the Wii and twenty for the Nintendo DS. (Hardware sales data for the week in Japan will be available from tomorrow morning.)
