Rumors continue to surround
Brothers in Arms developer Gearbox Software and suggestions that they are being tapped by Microsoft to work on the
Halo franchise.
Earlier in the week, rumors that Gearbox was working on
Halo 4 as a launch title for the next generation Xbox console were reported by the U.S. Official Xbox magazine. Referring to these rumors, an article on the Variety website has claimed to
partially confirm the details.
According to an unnamed source at Gearbox the developer is in talks with Microsoft about working on a new
Halo game, but no deal has yet been signed, and the title in question is not necessarily
Halo 4. Gearbox previously produced the PC version of
Halo: Combat Evolved.
Gearbox president and CEO Randy Pitchford previously confirmed that that the company is working on a new unannounced project, which he enigmatically described as "big... 'look at our lineup and imagine something even bigger' kind of big”.
Confusion continues to surround the involvement of series creator Bungie with the franchise, with the developer’s plans to announce a new, possibly
Halo-related title at E3 2008 being nixed at the last minute by publisher Microsoft.
