Soulcalibur IV, the latest entry in Namco's decade-old fighter series, has shipped some two million units worldwide after just a week on the market, publisher Namco Bandai has announced.
The cited figure refers to units delivered to retailers, rather than units purchased by customers, but consumer demand is often reflected in retailer order volume.
Critics treated the Xbox 360 and PS3 game
quite kindly upon release, with an updated average review score of 87 out of 100 at Metacritic.com, while the Xbox 360 port netted a score of 86 out of 100.
The title
charted high in the United Kingdom countdown - at #3 and #6 respectively, as well as
in Japan. Yet in that latter territory, at least, the game was not able to beat out heavy-hitters like
Wii Fit and
Phantasy Star Portable on the single-platform charts, despite first week combined sales of around 110,000 units.
