With the Japanese winter sales period finally over, software sales have returned to normal levels, although this week’s results are still above that of the same period last year. Sales of the top 100 titles totaled 998,637 units, compared to 920,555 in 2005. The highest new entry was strategy adventure Gunparade Orchestra: Shiro no Shou, one of three new sequels planned this year by Sony for PSone title and anime license Gunparade March. The game came in at only number five, though, with 35,709 unit sales. It fared better than Sega Rally 2006, however, which debuted at number eleven with less than 24,550 sales. This meant that the third of Nintendo’s Brain Training games was number one for the third week running, with a still impressive 141,307 unit sales. The only other movement of note in the top ten was the re-entry of Monster Hunter Portable, which has not left the top twenty since its launch in December and has become easily the most popular of the recently released new PSP titles. With stock levels of the Nintendo DS still low, and not expected to recover until the end of the month, the PSP was again the best selling hardware of the week, with 57,686 unit sales and a 32.17 percent market share. The Nintendo DS had a 30.28 percent market share with 54,284 unit sales. The PlayStation 2 was in third place with 39,076 sales and a 21.79 percent share of the market. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles was in fourth place with a 9.24 percent market share. In fifth place, the Xbox 360 beat the GameCube for the first time since its launch with a 3.41 percent share, with Nintendo’s aging console coming in at 3.05 percent
