Japanese Hardware: Sales Dip, But DS Still Ahead

Another slow week in Japan sees a drop in sales across the board, as the Nintendo DS takes the biggest fall -- but stays comfortably ahead of the competition. The PSP was the second best seller of the week, followed by the Wii.
With sales at a seasonal low in the software charts this week, hardware numbers in Japan have also been expectedly down. There has been no change in the pecking order though, with the Nintendo DS still ahead of the pack with 65,304 unit sales - down 16,000 on the previous week. The DSi accounted for 51,618 of these sales and the older DS Lite model for 13,686. In second place, and despite three titles in the software top three, the PSP saw a drop in sales of 4,000 units to 42,559. Similarly, and despite the top three selling games all being platform exclusives, the Wii saw its sales fall by 5,500 units to 26,770. Meanwhile, sales of the PlayStation 3 fell by 3,000 units to 17,708 for the week. Finally, the Xbox 360 saw sales drop by 2,000 units to 9,576 and the PlayStation 2 by around 500 units to 5,077. Overall in the software top 50, there were 20 titles for the Nintendo DS, 12 for the Wii, nine for the PlayStation 3, six for the PSP, two for the PlayStation 2, and one for the Xbox 360.
