Nintendo’s
New Super Mario Bros has continued to perform well in Japan, with the game recording 244,882 unit sales in its third week at number one, according to the latest Japanese game chart – a total greater than the majority of debuts for other major franchises.
The highest new entry in the charts, though, has also scored just over 100,000 units in its first week, with D3’s latest in a long line of licensed Pachinko simulators, in this case based on the popular Evangelion anime series. There is little movement in the rest of the charts, though, with Konami’s
Winning Eleven 10 proving to be the only non-Nintendo DS title in the top ten.
Hardware sales were only slightly down on the previous week, with Nintendo DS sales at 133,398 (including 1,371 for the original hardware) and the PSP at 21,656. The PlayStation 2 was in third place with 18,981 unit sales, with the Game Boy Advance family of consoles at 5,806. The Xbox 360 was at 1,100 units sold, perilously close to the sub 1,000 total of the GameCube at 961.
