Another slow week of sales in Japan has seen Atlus just miss out on the number one spot, by splitting its vote with two versions of its new Devil Summoner game on PlayStation 2. The fourth in the long-running series of spin-offs from the Shin Megami Tensai series was available in two separate editions, the Plus version at number two coming with a new version of the older Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. The standard edition, at number seven, features only a bundled soundtrack CD. Combined sales of both versions of the game totaled 88,000, but with the Plus version only selling 63,000 units, this week’s number one was Nintendo’s Wagamama Fashion: Girls Mode on Nintendo DS. The game, which involves the player running their own clothing store, has no connection with the restaurant chain of the same name - with the word wagamama meaning “selfish” in Japanese. After an unremarkable start last week, there was further slow results for Nintendo’s Wii Music, which fell four places to number five and was outsold by fellow music game Rhythm Tengoku Gold (aka Rhythm Heaven) on DS. New at number eight is what will be known in the West as Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, which sold 19,000 units – a relatively strong result for what remains a niche franchise in Japan. The final new entry in the top ten was anime tie-in Bleach: Soul Carnival for PSP, at number nine with 18,000 units sold. A large number of other new releases appear in the rest of the top 30, with Samurai Warriors themed DS strategy game Saihai no Yukue from Koei debuting at number 11. From Software’s Tenchu 4 on Wii placed at number 12 and DS action game Galileo from D3 entered at number 13. Namco Bandai’s DS role-player Soul Eater: Medusa no Inbou (based on a manga published by Square Enix) debuted at number 15, with Sega’s Garnet Chronicle role-player on PSP at number 23 and Namco Bandai’s Happy Dance Collection for Wii at number 26. EA’s NBA Live 09 on PSP entered the charts at number 27. The PlayStation 3 version at number 29 was the only title for either the PS3 or Xbox 360 in the entire top 30.
