Mobile game downloads for French developer/publisher Gameloft (New York Nights
) have passed the 200 million mark as the company celebrates its increasing success on Apple’s portable platforms.
Gameloft sold its first mobile game in 2003 and now has a catalog of almost 300 titles, available in more than 80 countries.
However, Gameloft's App Store presence for iPhone and iPod Touch games is rapidly increasing, and the firm claims: "Apple has become Gameloft's biggest client in July 2008", suggesting the App Store outgrosses other individual phone providers it deals with.
The company intends to publish even more App Store titles in 2009, as well as supporting other devices and technologies such as Google's Android and Nokia's N-Gage smartphone platforms. Gameloft will also continue to simultaneously publish games for 1,200 different handsets.
Although Gameloft predicted in December that console game sales would account for only 7 percent of its business
, support for the PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, WiiWare, Nintendo DSi and Xbox Live Arcade is still set to continue.
