First batch of backward compatible Xbox games hit Xbox One tomorrow

Thirteen games for Microsoft’s original Xbox are included in that first release, playable both digitally and with physical discs.

Microsoft has revealed the 13 games that make up the first batch of original Xbox titles to work with Xbox One’s backward compatibility.

As first mentioned during the company’s E3 press conference earlier this year, a number of games will be making the generational jump and become playable on the Xbox One family of systems, similar to what’s already been done with several Xbox 360 titles.

According to IGN, the following 13 games make up the first round of backward compatible titles:

  • Black
  • BloodRayne 2
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Dead to Rights
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Grabbed by the Ghoulies
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction II
  • Sid Meier’s Pirates!
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • The King of Fighters Neowave

While Xbox platform lead Bill Stillwell told IGN that the company opted for a curated list of games for the first round of Xbox backward compatibility, he also noted that the process isn’t as simple as picking and choosing since many of the original publishers are no longer around or there are issues with missing contracts or music licensing complications.

Starting on October 24, each game will be able to be played on the Xbox One using its original Xbox disc or digital download, while most can also be bought digitally from the Xbox Store as well. Each title will see a jump in resolution from its original 480p or 480i to 1080p in addition to improved framerates and faster loading times.
