In a
short comment made to financial reporters at Bloomberg, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has claimed that the Wii will surpass lifetime-to-date sales figure for the Xbox 360 console in the U.S. by June, in part due to the imminent release of
Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The mascot themed fighting game, which also includes characters from Sega’s
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and Konami’s
Metal Gear series, has already sold almost 1.5 million units in Japan after just three weeks on sale.
The game is due to be released in the U.S. on March 9th, while unconfirmed reports suggest that major title
Mario Kart Wii will be released in late April and
Wii Fit on May 19th.
With an arguably stronger line-up of forthcoming titles than even over the Christmas gift giving season, Nintendo shares have risen by 4.1 percent recently to ¥53,300 ($498), the highest figure since January 23rd.
