EA Confirms Dead Space Survival Horror Game

Electronic Arts has confirmed the development of a new intellectual property for the company in the form of forthcoming console title Dead Space, described as a “third-person sci-fi survival horror experience” for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Officials from Electronic Arts have confirmed the existence of a new intellectual property for the company, in the form of forthcoming console-only game Dead Space. The game is being developed by the company’s EA Redwood Shores Studio, and is described as a “third-person sci-fi survival horror experience”. In the game, players will take on the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer on an otherwise routine mission to fix a communications system on a mining ship who "awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship’s crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation." Clarke must then "fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive." The official website shows artwork implying a look and feel similar to movies such as the Aliens tetralogy, with consumer magazine Game Informer comparing the game’s atmosphere to Paul W. S. Anderson’s 1997 movie Event Horizon. Executive producer Glen Schofield (From Russia With Love, The Godfather) commented, “This team has worked on some tremendous properties but we have always wanted to work on something that was darker and creepier. We are all such huge fans of the horror and sci-fi genres; we wanted to create the most terrifying game we could, and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time.” Under development at EA's Redwood Shores studio, Dead Space is expected to be released in autumn 2008 for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
