Cool Youths: BAFTA honors winners of 2017 Young Game Designers Awards

Notably, the four budding game makers honored with these awards (the Game Concept Award and the Game Making Award, divided into two age categories apiece) were predominantly young women.

After talking up the finalists last month, this weekend the British Academy of Film and Television honored the four winners of its 2017 Young Game Designers Awards at a special ceremony in London.

Notably, the four budding game makers honored with these awards (the Game Concept Award and the Game Making Award, divided into two age categories apiece) were predominantly young women.

Each of these four winners is due to receive mentorship from a game industry professional, studio tours at Ubisoft, Jagex and Criterion Games, as well as assistance producing a finished prototype of their respective game projects.

We've taken the liberty of reprinting the list of winners below, but you can find more detail on them and all the nominees (as well as some links to their projects and fun pictures from the event, which was held on Saturday) over on the BAFTA website.

  • Game Concept (10 - 14 years) - Elsie Mae Williams, Torchlighter
  • Game Concept (15 - 18 years) - Anna Carter, Guzzlesaurus’s Culinary Capers
  • Game Making Award (10 - 14 years) - Spruce Campbell, CyberPNK
  • Game Making Awards (15 - 18 years) - Emily Mitchell, Fractured Minds
