Books-a-Million Selling Used Video Games At Some Locations

Alabama-based retailer Books-a-Million has started selling used video games in some of its over 200 brick-and-mortar locations across the American South and Northeast.
Alabama-based retailer Books-a-Million has started selling used video games in some of its over 200 brick-and-mortar locations across the American South and Northeast. The news comes as retailers including 7-Eleven, Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy have started or expanded used game programs in recent months. Calls to numerous Books-a-Million locations confirmed that they began selling used video games in their stores in the past couple of weeks. Employees at other store locations said they do not currently sell games, and they were unaware of any plans to do so in the near future. At locations where games are sold, the selection of games is dependent on titles shipped there by Books-a-Million's corporate headquarters, according to multiple company employees. The employees said the company does not accept used game trade-ins at those retail locations, and were unclear on how the corporation was acquiring the pre-owned games. The stores do not sell new video games, according to the employees. Video games do not currently appear for sale on the company's web store. "As we look forward to the fourth quarter we are excited about our new toy, gift and electronics departments, our entry into the video game business, our expanded offering of DVDs and the introduction of the NOOK range of e-readers including NOOKcolor," Books-a-Million Chairman, President and CEO Clyde B. Anderson said in a statement announcing the corporations third quarter results. Representatives from Books-a-Million's corporate headquarters were not immediately available for comment. Founded in 1917, Books-a-Million is currently the third-largest book retailer in America. The company also operates stores under the Books & Company and Bookland brands.
