Officials from Activision have officially announced a new spin-off from the company’s bestselling rhythm action series, with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The game is scheduled for release this June in North America with a simulation of the band’s career from their first gig to international success. To promote the game, the Aerosmith song Dream On will be available for free download via Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock from February 16th to 18th on Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store. The game itself will features songs both performed by Aerosmith and those which have inspired the band throughout their career - with no tracks announced so far. The title is being developed by Neversoft on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with Vicarious Visions creating the Wii version and Budcat the PlayStation 2 version. Activision has not yet stated whether the game will only be sold as a software release or if it will also be available bundled with the series’ signature guitar controller. “Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” said lead guitarist Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.” “On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing,” said Perry. “Fans want to get and experience music in new formats--and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”
