10th annual Desert Bus for Hope charity game marathon is a record-breaker

The tenth annual Desert Bus for Hope charity video game marathon has raised a record-breaking amount for Child's Play.

The tenth annual Desert Bus for Hope video game marathon has raised a record-breaking $693,880 for charity.

The cash will go to Child's Play, which works tirelessly to improve the lives of children in hospitals and shelters around the world.

This year's herculean effort means the brave Desert Bus team have raised almost $4 million to date, simply by playing a mini-game the from 1995 Sega CD title, Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors, for hours on end.

Of course, there's probably nothing simple about driving a careering public transport vehicle for what surely feels like an eternity.

"That's all for us here at Desert Bus for Hope. We have bussed, danced, auctioned, cheered, laughed and boy have we cried. We did more than we ever thought we could this week. We raised more than any previous Desert Bus," wrote the team.

"We are off to go sleep somewhere. We’ll see you on the other side of the road. Much love from everyone here at Desert Bus for Hope HQ."
