A new independent website has been launched by enthusiasts, featuring Flash-based games designed primarily for use on the newly launched Wii console when the console's Internet connectivity rolls out. The WiiCade website has been created by graphic designer David Stubbs, programmer John Eysman and Flash designer Aaron Worrall. According to the website’s blog, the site was created to “fill in the gap between home made games and console games, kinda making it easier for the little guy to be recognized.” The site features a number of simple Flash games designed to work with the Opera browsers. A modified version of the latter is destined to be released, initially for free, for the Wii but has not been available at launch. According to Stubbs’ comments, 16,000 games have been played since the site’s launch, presumably solely on PCs. Although the site praises Nintendo and the Wii platform, it is not clear what the company’s reaction to the site will be. The Nintendo DS version of the Opera browser did not feature any Flash compatibility - however, it's confirmed that the Wii will have Flash compatibility, so it's believed the site will function correctly with the Wii browser.
