Nintendo’s Wii exclusive
Super Mario Galaxy has got off to a relatively slow start in Japan, with first week results below that of
Mario Party 8 in August.
Although impressive by most other standards, the game’s debut of 251,000 units comes behind
Mario Party 8’s total of 265,000 units - despite much greater critical acclaim.
There will likely be no disappointment in the performance of Namco Bandai’s Xbox 360 exclusive
Ace Combat 6, though, which debuts at number two with 77,000 units sold.
The game is one of three Xbox 360 titles in the top thirty, with budget priced re-releases
The Idol Master at number twenty-one and
Chikyuu Boueigun 3 (aka
Earth Defense Force 2017) at number twenty-nine.
The only other new entry in the top ten is a sequel to Banpresto’s real-time strategy spin-off from the
Super Robot Wars series at number four, with
Scramble Commander the 2nd selling 21,000 units on PlayStation 2.
Outside the top three overall game sales still remain low, with one of the two
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 SKUs at number ten - registering just 14,000 units sold during the week.
