Key sequel Resident Evil 5 is currently scheduled only for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, although these latest results have shown the strong following the series has gained on Nintendo hardware, following its period of exclusivity on the GameCube. The Resident Evil series (known as Biohazard in Japan) as a whole has sold over 34.5 million units globally as of February 29th, 2008 and continues to be one of Capcom’s most critically and commercially successful franchises. The company has also experienced considerable successful with its live action movie adaptations, the latest of which has generated ¥16 billion ($147m) in revenues in Japan alone. A full length computer generated movie, which sticks more closely to the game plot and characters is also being developed.
