Dragon Quest Still Atop Busy Japanese Charts

The Nintendo DS remake of Dragon Quest V has topped the Japanese sales chart for a second week, outselling new entries including new baseball simulations from Konami, Siren: Blood Curse on the PS3 and Wario Land: Shake It! on Wii.
Square Enix’s Nintendo DS remake of Dragon Quest V has topped the Japanese charts once again, with impressive second week sales of 190,000 units. The game has now sold around 834,000 copies in Japan, becoming Square Enix’s fastest-selling game so far on the format. A large number of new releases in the rest of the chart has stimulated sales across the board, with the highest new entry of the week being annual baseball release Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 15 from Konami. The PlayStation 2 version of the game enters at number two in the charts with 84,000 unit sales, and the Wii version at number ten with 22,000 units sold. With Gundam Battle Universe on PSP enjoying a strong second week at number three in the charts, the second highest debut is a new entry in the long running role-playing series The Legend of Heroes. Placing at number four, the PSP game sold 39,000 units. New at number five is PlayStation 3 title Siren: New Translation (aka Siren: Blood Curse), with 35,000 units sold. The remake of the PlayStation 2 survival horror is only available as downloadable content in the West, but is also a full retail release in Japan. 2D beat ‘em-up and anime tie-in Katekyoo Hitman Reborn! DS Flame Rumble Hyper - Moeyo Mirai enters the chart at number six, with the Nintendo DS title registering 32,000 unit sales in its first week. New at number eight is Wario Land Shake (aka Wario Land: Shake It!/Wario Land: The Shake Dimension), with the 2D platformer selling 25,000 units on the Wii. Other new entries in the top thirty include Konami’s Nintendo DS anime tie-in Kirarin * Revolution: Minna de Odorou Furi Furi Debut! at number thirteen. The PlayStation 2 version of Rockstar Game’s Bully debuts at number seventeen, published in Japan by Bethesda Softworks. The Xbox 360 version of Bully: Scholarship Edition is at number twenty and Nintendo DS role-playing game Twilight Syndrome: Kinjiratera Toshi Densetsu from Spike enters at number twenty-seven.
