Destiny 2's new voice commands are powered by the Amazon Echo

Bungie has brought a handful of voice commands to Destiny 2 that will let players manage their inventory or message members of their in-game clans without pressing a button.

The new feature is akin to the voice options some developers integrated during the reign of the Kinect, but Bungie's latest addition has one major difference: Destiny 2's voice commands are powered by Amazon's family of voice-activated Echo devices rather than the console or PC running the game.

It's also an interesting take on the supplementary (and typically smartphone-powered) apps that many games, including Destiny 2, use to give players easier access to in-game options and social features on the fly.

The Echo-powered voice commands work by first installing the Destiny 2 Ghost skill to an Amazon Echo device and then linking it to a player's Bungie account. From there, players can use the "Alexa, ask ghost" command to quickly save and swap weapon loadouts, send messages to fellow players, receive quest and milestone updates, or ask about the game's lore.

The feature was announced alongside a Ghost-shaped wireless speaker, though the $90 prop isn't required to use voice commands.
