Bioshock Wins Spike TV Game of the Year

Take-Two Interactive’s Bioshock has won the key Game of the Year award at Spike TV’s 2007 Video Game Awards (VGA) ceremony, also taking home best Xbox 360 title and best score awards in a televised ceremony which took place in Las Vegas on Friday.
Take-Two Interactive’s Bioshock has won the key Game of the Year award at Spike TV’s 2007 Video Game Awards (VGA) ceremony. The game also won best Xbox 360 title and best score in a televised ceremony which took place in Las Vegas on Friday. Now in their fifth year, the awards were hosted by Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson with performances by Kid Rock and the Foo Fighters. Also appearing were magician Criss Angel, skateboarder Tony Hawk, quarterback Matt Leinart and boxing promoter Don King. Apart from Bioshock's wins, Boston-based developer Harmonix took home a number of awards including studio of the year, and both best rhythm game and best soundtrack for its Rock Band. Activision's Call of Duty 4 took home both best shooter and best military game, while Bungie's Halo 3 won best multiplayer game and the sole audience-voted category, 'Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew.' The full list of winners is as follows: Game of the Year: Bioshock (2K Games) Best Shooter: Call of Duty 4 (Activision) Best Action game: Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo) Best Rhythm Game: Rock Band (MTV Games) Best RPG: Mass Effect (Microsoft) Best Driving Game: DiRT (Codemasters) Best Military Game: Call of Duty 4 (Activision) Studio of the Year: Harmonix Best Graphics: Crysis (Electronic Arts) Breakthrough Technology: Portal (Valve) Best PS3 Game: Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (Sony) Best Wii Game: Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo) Best Xbox 360 Game: Bioshock (2K Games) Best PC Game: The Orange Box (Valve) Best Individual Sports Game: Skate (Electronic Arts) Best Team Sports Game: Madden NFL 08 (Electronic Arts) Best Handheld Game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo) Best Game Based on a Movie or TV Show: The Simpsons Game (Electronic Arts) Best Soundtrack: Rock Band (MTV Games) Best Original Score: Bioshock (2K Games) Best Multiplayer game: Halo 3 (Microsoft) Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew: Halo 3 (Microsoft) This year’s short list of titles had been drawn up by a panel of notable U.S. journalists, including Chris Kohler, Dan Hsu, Dean Takahashi, Geoff Keighley, Jeff Gerstmann. Gamasutra’s own Brandon Boyer and Game Developer Magazine’s Brandon Sheffield were also involved in the selection.
