British indie studio Remode, founded in 2007 by Ella Romanos and Martin Darby, is shutting down next month -- although the duo says that it has something new in the works. The Remode founders say that they originally opened the studio with the aim to create new IP and explore new ideas, with various work-for-hire jobs funding this goal. However, after seven years Remode says that its work-for-hire, for companies like Sulake and Spil Games, has taken too large a role, and as such, Romanos and Darby now want to go back to their original hopes of creating their own games. "Making our own games remains our goal," say the pair, "so we have made the decision to close down Remode as a work for hire studio and focus on developing new ways to raise resources for IP projects, plans for which will be announced soon." It's currently unclear how many people will be affected by the closure, although Gamasutra has already spotted several on Twitter asking about hiring prospects.
