Ubisoft said today that it plans to invest 28 million Canadian dollars ($25.2 million) over the next three years to bolster its Quebec City studio, with the aim to create around 100 new jobs.
Ubisoft Quebec is best known for providing additional development support to the
Assassin's Creed franchise, while also creating
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth back in 2012. The studio currently employs around 350 staffers.
With this injection of cash, Ubisoft hopes to reinforce its presence in Quebec City, and move the studio more into the foreground. The company says Ubisoft Quebec will soon take the lead on the development of games for PS4 and Xbox One.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says that the studio has shown that it can manage large-scale projects, and that entrusting the production of the company's next big AAA titles to this studio is the natural next step.
The Quebec government is obviously keen to see Ubisoft expand its presence in the region, as it has contributed an additional 510,000 Canadian dollars ($459,000) to the cause.
"We are proud to accompany Ubisoft in its growth in Quebec," stated Quebec Prime Minister Pauline Marois. "Interactive entertainment is an important vector for the economy in the Quebec City region, and helps to promote Quebec’s savoir-faire on an international level."
