Two resources to help you dig into the Steam Summer Sale results

What effect did the incredibly popular, yearly promotion have on game developers? Two resources break it down for your perusal.

The Steam Summer Sale has become a major yearly event for the video game industry. But what effect does it have on developers? Two new resources can help us gain a much more complete understanding of that.

Steam Spy, which has proven to be a useful gauge of what's happening on the service, has compiled a list of the big winners -- ranked by sales numbers, by default, which shows which games picked up the most new players during the period covering the sale.

We've included its top 5 biggest gainers below.

At the same time, Ars Technica has posted an in-depth, multi-page report full of visualizations of data from the sale -- including looks at how games that were both featured and not featured, broadly speaking, performed during the sale, the performance of specific and notable games (like Ori and the Blind Forest, for example), and general breakdowns of important topics like revenue increases and how game pricing affected sales.
