With little to no fanfare, it seems that Turbine is ceasing development on its short-lived free-to-play MOBA Infinite Crisis and shutting it down completely on August 14th.

With little to no fanfare, it seems that WB-owned Turbine is ceasing development on its short-lived free-to-play MOBA Infinite Crisis and shutting it down completely on August 14th.

Though the DC Comics-licensed game has been in some form of beta testing since at least 2013, it only officially launched on Steam at the end of March; by the time it shuts down, it will have been "live" for a scant five months.

"This was an extremely difficult decision to make," reads a farewell blog post on the game's website. "On behalf of the entire Infinite Crisis team we want to thank all of you for your feedback, support and for joining together to create one of the best communities in gaming."

Infinite Crisis was Turbine's first non-MMORPG project, and Gamasutra has reached out to company representatives for further comment on whether staff will be cut as the game shuts down. Turbine went through multiple rounds of layoffs last year as it shifted its focus to mobile game development.
