Tablet game revenue to triple by 2019, report finds

Juniper Research expects revenues from tablet games to jump from $3.6 billion this year to $13.3 billion five years from now.
Research firm Juniper Research has put together a report that suggests revenues from tablet games to jump from $3.6 billion this year to $13.3 billion in 2019. The factors that will influence this growth include "improved storage capacity of devices, better graphical capabilities, increasing mobile broadband penetration and consumers' preference for convenience and ubiquity," Juniper says. The firm suggests that over the next year, independent developers will be further squeezed in the app store markets and need to raise more funds to compete for "consumer awareness," something we're already seeing in blog after blog after blog. Notably, Juniper predicts that by 2019, only 6 percent of mobile games will be paid, premium downloads -- the rest supported by in-app purchases or advertisements. IAP revenue share already makes up 94 percent of all game spending on the Chinese and Japanese iOS App Stores. That number is 81 percent in the U.S. You can purchase Juniper's report here.
