Newsbrief: This weekend, Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe said that the company's latest headset prototype, Crescent Bay, is "getting much, much closer to consumer Rift." Apparently, Oculus isn't the only one approaching a release. At the Tokyo Game Show, which also took place over the weekend, Sony Computer Entertainment president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida told The Wall Street Journal that its Project Morpheus headset is nearing completion, too. According to the WSJ, Sony has completed 85 percent of the work needed to launch the Morpheus to consumers. It doesn't seem likely that Oculus will launch its own consumer headset this year, but the Gear VR -- a headset manufactured and marketed by Samsung but developed in collaboration with Oculus, which uses the upcoming Note 4 phone -- will be out this year.
