Sony Online Entertainment has revealed that it will merge its DC Universe Online servers later this month, cutting down the current servers to just four servers. All the U.S. servers will be merged into just two -- one for the PC version and one for the PlayStation 3 version -- while the European edition of the game will receive a similar set-up. SOE called the servers "super servers," which will use purportedly use new technology. As spotted by MMORPG.com, lthough the servers are being migrated, players from the two different versions of the game will still not be able to play with each other, as the server lists will be kept separate. The merger will help address low server populations. SOE explained, "This will allow for more opportunities to queue and participate in other group-related game mechanics. We are hoping to get this on our PC Test Server to start testing, again, sometime in the next month and then will tune it up for the PS3 platform as well." More details regarding the merge are due to be released on the official DC Universe Online site in the next few weeks. DC Universe Online launched for PC and PS3 in January, and has since become Sony's "fastest selling game ever", according to company president John Smedley. Sony noted last week that it will "make good" with players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online, since the PSN outage has rendered the game unplayable. Currently the main website for the game is down due to the outage.
