During its Latin American E3 press conference this week, Sony announced plans to manufacture PlayStation 4 consoles within northern Brazil's Manaus Free Trade Zone in order to begin selling the console at a lower price in Brazil later this year.

The announcement was brought to our attention by IGN Brazil and confirmed by Gamasutra with a Sony representative, who called it "exciting news" for developers aiming to bring their games to the Brazilian market.

Brazil is a burgeoning market for games, but it's also an expensive place to try and do business because hardware manufactured outside the country is subject to remarkably high import tariffs.

Back in 2013 Sony famously blamed those taxes for the PlayStation 4's $1,800 asking price in Brazil, and earlier this year Nintendo pulled its consoles out of the country entirely due to the high cost of doing business.
