SNES Classic and Super Mario Odyssey hit 2M sales

Nintendo broke the news during a recent earnings presentation, where company president Tatsumi Kimishima served up some other interesting numbers.

Super Mario Odyssey has sold-through 2 million copies since launching four days ago on October 27.

Nintendo broke the news during a recent earnings presentation, where company president Tatsumi Kimishima served up some other interesting numbers.

Speaking to investors, Kimishima said the SNES Classic has already hit 2 million sales worldwide, and explained the system will continue to ship moving forward.

He also weighed in on Nintendo's mobile offerings, revealing Super Mario Run has surpassed 200 million downloads.

Despite that lofty download rate, Nintendo claims the game has yet to "reach an acceptable profit point," which suggests a lot of players didn't shell out $10 to unlock the full game.

That's not to say the title is a failure, though, and Nintendo explained it has "learned a lot in terms of game development and deployment that we want to take advantage of moving forward."

With regards to the Switch, the Japanese juggernaut is still ramping up production, and expects to see console sales hit 14 million units by the end of the financial year in March 2018.

That would mean the Switch is on course to eclipse the Wii U's lifetime sales total of 13.56 million units after just one year on shelves.
