After publicly declaring bankruptcy last week, venerable UK publisher Mastertronic Group has set its flight sim division Just Flight free this week with the financial backing of an unknown investor.
The new Just Flight Ltd. is actually comprised of Mastertronics' former Just Flight and Just Trains dev teams, and will continue to focus on creating train and plane sim content.
"The last two years have been really hard for us all, given that the larger business we were part of was facing up to a transitioning games market," stated Alex Ford, who is leading the newly-independent studio alongside fellow ex-Mastertronic staffer Dermot Stapleton. "We have always believed in building the highest quality simulations and will now focus 100% on that and that only."
This is evidently the "new company" former Mastertronic MD Andy Payne mentioned would be spun out of the firm last week as Mastertronic sold it off to a new buyer. Originally acquired by Mastertronic in 2005, the London-based Just Flight has been making games since 1997 and contributed to notable sims like Microsoft Flight Simulator and Train Simulator.
