Newsbrief: Square Enix seems to be making a show of opening a new studio in Japan dedicated to developing RPGs for contemporary consoles, according to a
report from Japanese website Inside Games that has been selectively translated by
Siliconera.
Square Enix has launched a standalone
recruitment page for the Tokyo-based venture with listings for artists, directors, designers, programmers with Unity experience -- everything you need to start a new mid-size studio.
The new studio's name and remit are still unclear. However, the fact that Square Enix is issuing a public call for Japanese developers interested in making console RPGs echoes the sentiments expressed by company president Yosuke Matsuda earlier this year, when he
admitted the company had 'lost focus' and expressed interest in making games for 'core fans' -- rather than broad audiences -- going forward.
