The PlayStation 4 has hit another major sales milestone, with Sony confirming its flagship console has sold through more than 70.6 million units worldwide as of December 3.

The console surpassed 60 million sales in June, and after strong Q2 sales many expected the system to hit the 70 million mark sooner rather than later.

On the software front, over 614.8 million physical and digital PlayStation 4 titles have been sold around the world.

What's more, the PlayStation VR headset has now sold through 2 million units worldwide, with PSVR software sales totaling 12.2 million across digital and physical storefronts.

The PSVR was closing in on 1 million sales towards the end of February, so it's taken the device around nine months to pull in another million.

Sony has reaffirmed its support for the headset, and is currently developing over 130 virtual reality games and experiences for release in 2018.
